POWER FAILURES

If your power supply is interrupted…

We aim to provide a safe and reliable electricity supply to all our customers, but occasionally things do go wrong. In the event of a power cut, customers should call the following Free phone number : 0800 8048688

Things to check if your electricity goes off unexpectedly

Before you call it is worthwhile checking the following:

  • Are your neighbours without power ?
  • Are the street lights off ?

If the answer is yes to these questions then please call our emergency number.

Please do not assume we already know you have lost your power. Just call the number and we will collect your details and from there we will despatch the relevant staff to deal with the problem.

If it looks like you are the only person in your neighbourhood who may be affected then please try the following before you call -

Check if ...

  • Everything in the house has lost supply
  • You have only lost power to certain items in the house. E.g. The Lights are off however the TV is working

If it is the latter then there is the possibility that there is something wrong with your own installation or appliances – I'm afraid we cannot help you with this as this is your responsibility to repair or replace.

We are responsible for the cable that comes into your house and the meter.

If there is no power at all to anything in the house please check if your main trip switch is off. If it is, then try and switch it back on.

If this does not bring your power back on then please contact us on :
0800 8048688.

Computers and other sensitive electronic equipment

Please note that it is always possible to have voltage fluctuations during the time when we are working to restore supplies. More recently manufactured goods have devices installed to protect the equipment during the period of such fluctuations. However some equipment may develop problems which are out with our control and we cannot be held responsible if these items develop a fault as a result of our works.

It is worth taking a few steps to help avoid losing information on your PC or to avoid damage occurring during our operations to restore power.

Always take time to back up information on the computer and where applicable give consideration to installing an (UPS) uninterruptible power supply

Un-plug all your sensitive electronic equipment in the house e.g. T.V. ,satellite system, DVDs, computer systems etc. until your power is restored. It is worth waiting for at least an hour after your power is back on before you switch everything on.

Freezers and Fridges

These will stay cooler for longer if you can avoid opening and closing the door - If you have to; then always close the door as soon as possible.

Covering the Freezer or fridge with a large blanket will also help to keep the contents cooler for longer – however avoid covering any vents.

Some tips to aid you during a power cut

  • Always switch off all appliances and equipment except one light. The light will let you know that the power has come back on.
  • Try to keep a torch close at hand.
  • Your central heating system generally relies on electronic timers and electric pumps so your boiler will not work until the power comes back on.
  • Gas cookers and ovens may also rely on electrical power to operate so ensure you are aware of their operation.
